NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team (2-7, 1-2 Skyline) recovered from back-to-back shutouts to take down Skyline Conference opponent Yeshiva University (2-2, 0-2 Skyline), 7-2, on Sunday on the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis courts to end a four-match losing streak.
The Knights swept doubles play on Sunday for the first time this season. Senior
Jaimee Lubniewski (Middletown, N.Y.) and junior
Alissa Niad (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) defeated Rachel Shapiro and Daniella Penn at No. 1 doubles, 8-3. Senior
Jillian Torre (Bohemia, N.Y.) and sophomore
Breanna Scott (Highland Falls, N.Y.) shut out Galila Shapiro and Jannah Eichenbaum at No. 2 doubles, 8-0. Junior
Sarah Pimienta (Wurtsboro, N.Y.) and sophomore
Ellen Hendricks (West Point, N.Y.) rounded up doubles play with an 8-5 victory at the third flight over Anita Levy and Amy Weiss.
Lubniewski continued her solid play on the day with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Rachel Shapiro at top-flight singles, while Niad took down Galila Shapiro by the same score at No. 2. Torre defeated Eichenbaum with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles, and Scott won her No. 4 singles match over Yael Rahimzada, 6-4, 6-0.
The Mount looks to develop a winning streak when they host the College of Staten Island on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The action is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. on the Mount Saint Mary College Tennis Courts.
