ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team (11-16) took home a 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 26-24) shutout victory over Bard College (4-24) in non-conference action Wednesday evening.
The Knights never trailed in the first two sets, but they had to fight to close out the win. Leading the third frame, 15-9, the Knights' lead soon disappeared when the Raptors tied the game at 17-17. The Raptors were on the verge of forcing a fourth set with a 24-23 lead, but the Knights rallied for the final three points of the match to leave victorious.
Freshman outside hitter
Rachel Sabatini (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) threw down a match-high 13 kills on Wednesday. Sophomore middle blocker
Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) added five kills without an error for a hitting percentage of .625. Freshman setter
Claire Scully (Bloomfield, N.J.) dished out 16 sets, while junior defensive specialist
Brianna Johnston (Breezy Point, N.Y.) led the Knights with 10 digs.
Bard's Mai Aurell-Foulser recorded eight kills in the match, while Lexi Cooper picked up 16 assists. Daniella Azulai led the match with 12 digs.
The Knights were the more efficient team on Wednesday, hitting at a .226 clip compared to a -.038 hitting percentage for Bard.
The Knights will play three matches at New Jersey City University (NJCU) on Saturday, Oct. 26. They'll take on SUNYIT at 11 a.m., NJCU at 1 p.m. and then Immaculata University at 3 p.m.
