NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team (6-4, 2-0 Skyline) defeated The Sage Colleges (1-7, 0-3 Skyline), 4-0, on Wednesday evening at Kaplan Field to claim its second Skyline win of the season.
Senior defender
Tara McDermott (Tewksbury, N.J.) put the Knights up 1-0 in the 20th minute when she shot from 25 yards out and netted the ball. Junior defender
Marissa Segreto (West Islip, N.Y.) struck in the 25th minute when sophomore forward
Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) crossed the ball in from the right, setting Segreto up for a header in front of the net.
The game remained scoreless until the 71st minute when Segreto and Robe switched places. Segreto crossed the ball in from the right allowing Robe to blast the ball in from the top of the box, sending the Knights up 3-0. Keeping the ball rolling, Segreto claimed her second goal of the night in the 81st minute when junior midfielder
Vanessa DiSilvio (Massapequa, N.Y.) passed the ball to the top of the box, allowing Segreto to maneuver the ball past the goalkeeper.
Senior goalkeeper
Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) recorded her third shutout of the season. Gator goalkeeper Teagan Waddingham had nine saves in the loss.
The Mount dominated the shot total with a 37-1 advantage over Sage. The Knights also earned five corner kicks to Sages' one.
The Knights return to action on Saturday, October 5, when they host Polytechnic Institute of New York University, game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
