Knights Stall in Second Half, Fall to Purchase in Skyline Action

Box Score

PURCHASE, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College shot 16.0-percent and managed just 10 points in the second half on its way to a 50-36 Skyline Conference defeat at the hands of Purchase College.  The loss was the fourth straight for the Knights, who fell to 5-7 on the year (2-1 Skyline).  The Panthers bumped up to 6-7 overall (1-2 Skyline).

Trailing by eight in the early going, Mount Saint Mary closed the opening half on a 12-2 run to claim a 26-24 advantage at the break.  Sophomore Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) hit a triple as the clock dipped under one minute and sophomore Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) connected from three with six seconds on the clock to complete the run.

With the Knights leading by three, Purchase ripped off a 10-0 run to take the lead for good.  Senior Becky Metzger (Point Pleasant, N.J.) broke things up with a bucket at the 13:03 mark, but it would be one of only four field goals for the Knights in the second half.  Mount Saint Mary shot just 4-for-25 in the period, allowing Purchase to stretch away to a 14-point victory.

Romao was the only Mount player in double figures with 10, while Metzger finished with nine points.

Purchase senior Talie Beaulieu (Waldorf, Md.) led all scorers with 16 points and completed a double-double with 11 rebounds.  Sophomore Lineker St. Hilaire (Wyandanch, N.Y.) also had a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.

The win was the first for Purchase over Mount Saint Mary since the Panthers joined the Skyline Conference in 2007.

The Knights will host St. Joseph's College on Wednesday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m. in Newburgh.
