NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College placed four players in double figures and hit on 13-of-21 three-point attempts on its way to a 69-51 conference win over Yeshiva University on Tuesday afternoon. The streaking Knights moved to 13-6 overall (10-3 Skyline), while the Maccabees dropped below .500 to 8-9 overall (5-6 Skyline).
Senior
Ryan Straub (Massapequa, N.Y.) led all scorers with 15 points, all via the three-ball. The senior hit on 5-of-6 from long range. Junior
Joe Henain (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) was next with 14 points, while junior
Chris Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) continued his stellar play with his third double-double (13 points, 13 rebounds) in the last four games. Junior
Joe Stabach (Staten Island, N.Y.) also lit it up from long range, hitting on 4-of-7 attempts to finish with 12 points.
The Knights answered a Yeshiva opening bucket with an 8-0 run that included a pair of threes from Straub. Mount Saint Mary gradually pulled away with small runs of 6-0 and 7-0 later in the half to carry a 16-point advantage into the break.
Stabach connected on a pair of trifectas to open the second half as the Knights opened up a 20-point advantage. The lead would expand to as many as 23 without dipping below 14 for the remainder of the contest and the Mount cruised to an 18-point victory.
The three-point shooting percentage of 61.9-percent was a season-best for the Knights and the team's 13 three-pointers fell just one short of a season-high. The Mount hit 14 times from long range against Yeshiva back on December 3.
Junior Benjy Ritholtz (West Hempstead, N.Y.) led Yeshiva with 13 points. Seniors Gil Bash (Tel Aviv, Israel) and Dovie Hoffman (Tarzana, Calif.) each added 11 points for the Maccabees.
Mount Saint Mary College heads to first-place Old Westbury on Thursday to take on the Panthers, who currently sit at 17-3 overall and 12-0 in the Skyline. The tip is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. in Old Westbury, N.Y.
