BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College overcame a slow start and an early five-point deficit to defeat NYU-Poly, 60-48, in Skyline Conference action on Saturday. The Knights moved their winning streak to seven and improve to 12-7 overall (9-1 Skyline).

Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) gave the Knights their first lead and her jumper with 53 seconds remaining in the opening half sent the Mount to the locker room with a 25-23 advantage.
A three-pointer from sophomore
Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) at the 14:40 mark pushed the Mount lead to nine, but NYU-Poly wouldn't go away just yet. The Fighting Blue Jays crept back into the game with a 9-2 run and trailed by just two (36-34) with 11 minutes remaining.

Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) had an answer, draining consecutive jumpers to spark an 8-0 run for the visitors. The Fighting Blue Jays made one last push and got to within six on a pair of free throws from freshman Aisha Abu Marzoug (Heartfordshire, England) at the 2:38 mark. Romao had the answer this time, as she swished a three-pointer to push the lead back to nine and put the game out of reach. The Knights took care of their free throws down the stretch to earn the 12-point win.
Romao led the Knights with 15 points, while Perrone tallied a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Senior
Becky Metzger (Point Pleasant, N.J.) just missed a double-double of her own with 12 points and nine boards. Candarelli also reached double figures with 10 points.
Sophomore Catherine Thompson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) led NYU-Poly with 12 points and freshman Alyssa D'Apice (Carmel, N.Y.) chipped in with 11. The Fighting Blue Jays shot just 29.1-percent from the field and committed 18 turnovers.
Mount Saint Mary completes a string of three straight road games with a trip to Old Westbury on Thursday. The game with the Panthers is set for a 6:00 p.m. start in Old Westbury, N.Y.
