Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) hit a three-pointer with 39 seconds remaining to give Mount Saint Mary College a 50-47 victory over Farmingdale State College in a key Skyline matchup. The Knights improved to 8-7 overall (5-1 Skyline), while the Rams fell to 4-7 (2-2 Skyline).
The teams exchanged three-pointers as the clock ticked down to the five minute mark. With 5:08 remaining, the score was tied at 47-47 and it would remain that way until the final minute. Then, with 39 seconds on the clock, junior
Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) hit Romao for what would turn out to be the game-winning basket. Farmingdale missed at the other end and the Knights cleaned up the rebound to claim the victory.
Romao led the team with 13 points, while sophomore forward
Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) finished with nine points and five rebounds. Perrone pulled down nine rebounds and scored eight for the Knights.
For the Rams, sophomore guard Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) scored a game-high 15 points, while junior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) and senior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) each added 13 points. Junior forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Mount Saint Mary travels to Sage on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tip with the Gators.
