Knights Split at Kean

UNION, N.J. - Mount Saint Mary College split a pair of matches at Kean University on Saturday.  The Knights (2-5) fell to host Kean in four sets, but rebounded nicely to take down the College of New Rochelle in straight sets.

MSMC won the opening set against Kean (25-19) thanks to ten kills against just a pair of errors.  But the Knights could not carry the momentum to the rest of the match.  The Cougars claimed each of the next three sets (25-22, 25-17, 26-24) to earn the victory.

Senior Mary Ann Raftery (Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) led the Mount attack with eight kills, while sophomore Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) finished with seven kills.  Senior Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.) totaled 22 assists and 15 digs, while freshman Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) posted a team-high 18 digs.

The Knights took the opening set from New Rochelle (25-19) and then rolled to a straight set win with victories in set two (25-11) and three (25-18).

Raftery led the way once again with 10 kills, while Halverson, freshman Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.), sophomore Katie Lynch (Island Park, N.Y.), and freshman Kerianne Lynch (Congers, N.Y.) added four kills each.  Halverson also dished out a match-high 18 assists.

The Knights will have the week off before heading to the Hawk Invite at SUNY New Paltz next weekend.  They'll open play against Clarkson University at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
