NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team defeated Ramapo College on Thursday in the Kaplan Center for the team's first win of the season. The Knights (1-4) won in straight sets (25-21, 25-20, 26-24).
Senior
Mary Ann Raftery (Long Beach, N.Y.) led the Knights with 10 assists and was a key contributor in a third set comeback as the Knights rallied from an early seven-point deficit. Senior
Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.) had a solid all-around contribution with 26 assists and 10 digs, while freshman
Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) posted a team-high 14 digs.
A fast-paced contest throughout, the closely matched teams exchanged points at a rapid pace. The Knights showed great teamwork and were patient both offensively and defensively during the third set rally.
For Ramapo, freshman Cathryn Smart (Princeton Junction, N.J.) led the way with nine kills and 17 digs. Freshman Nicole Herrmann (Parsippany, N.J.) posted a match-high eight blocks.
The Knights will now hit the road as they will travel to Union, N.J. to take on Kean University on Saturday, September 8. The match is set for a 12:00 p.m. start.
