Post-game interview with Shanice Robe
NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College freshman
Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored three times on Wednesday evening to lead her team to a 3-1 victory over Rutgers-Newark. The Knights pick up their first win of the season and move to 1-2 overall, while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 0-3.
Robe opened the scoring in the 25th minute, carrying the ball on a long run down the left side. Her shot kissed off the side of the left post before rolling to the back of the net.
A one-goal game at the half, Robe doubled the advantage by putting home a rebound in the 51st minute. Less than a minute later, she completed the hat trick with a rocket from the top of the box that snuck under the crossbar.
Rutgers-Newark got on the board in the 62nd minute, when senior Margeaux Hedley (Westfield, N.J.) volleyed home a cross from junior Renae McEvoy (Denville, N.J.). The Scarlet Raiders almost got to within one in the 88th minute, but a header from freshman Cristina Estremera (East Brunswick, N.J.) trickled just wide of the far post.
Mount junior goalkeeper
Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) made three saves to earn the victory. Rutgers-Newark rookie keeper Kelsey Benoit (Flemington, N.J.) made 12 saves in defeat.
The Knights return to action this Saturday with a trip to King's College. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
