Knights Split Saturday Matches

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Rebounding nicely from a morning defeat at the hands of Montclair State, the Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team defeated King's College in straight sets to salvage a split of Saturday's matches.  The Knights move to 10-7 overall.

Mount Saint Mary dropped the morning match to Montclair in straight sets (25-14, 25-22, 25-15).  Senior Mary Ann Raftery (Long Beach, N.Y.) led the way, racking up a match-high 12 kills to go along with 11 digs.  Senior Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.) came up with 22 assists and tied for the team-lead with 15 digs.  Sophomore Brianna Johnston (Breezy Point, N.Y.) also racked up 15 digs.

The Knights took out their frustrations on King's, opening with a 25-4 first set and cruising to a straight-set win (25-4, 25-14, 25-11).  Raftery was the top attacker once again, going for 14 digs on just 25 attacks.  Freshman Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) also got in on the act, piling up 11 kills on 19 attempts.  Halverson finished with 29 assists.

Mount Saint Mary faces a midweek showdown with Sage on Wednesday.  The Gators, unbeaten in Skyline play at 4-0, will host the Knights at 7:00 p.m.
