Knights Shut Out Old Westbury in Skyline Play

Box Score

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Behind three first half goals, the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 win over SUNY College at Old Westbury on Saturday. The Knights have won their last five games and improve to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in Skyline play. Old Westbury drops to 3-5 on the year and 0-1 in the conference.

Mount freshman Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) struck first with her tenth goal of the year in the 14th minute of play. Robe stole the ball from a defender in the box and beat Old Westbury sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Thomas (Patchogue, N.Y.) to the near post to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.

With 25 minutes elapsed in the first, Mount sophomore Marissa Segreto (West Islip, N.Y.) collected a loose ball and played it ahead to sophomore Meghan Moran (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.). Moran placed a shot to the far post and into the back of the net to make it 2-0.

The Panthers best opportunity to score came in the first half, as sophomore Victoria Dehel (Sicklerville, N.J.) drilled a high ball from 30 yards out, but Mount keeper Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) was able to collect the ball in the air. With just over ten minutes to play in the first, freshman Melissa Guillemette (Branford, Conn.) added her first collegiate goal, as she dribbled into the left side of the box and finished the ball past Thomas' reach.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Mount sophomore Nicole Gianotti (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) tacked on the Knights' fourth of the day. Gianotti dribbled down the left side of the field toward the endline and then fired a shot that wrapped around the near post to make it 4-0.

The Knights held a commanding 25-2 advantage in shots and both of the Panthers' shots came in the opening half. Mancini and freshman Abigail McQuillen (Greenville, N.Y.) combined for the shutout, while Thomas recorded eight saves.

Up next, the Knights travel to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Monday for a Skyline Conference contest. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
