NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College defeated Manhattanville College in straight sets Wednesday night at the Kaplan Center. The Knights are currently on a four-game winning streak and improved to 6-6 overall with the victory.
Mount Saint Mary took the first set easily (25-8), using a quick start offensively to score the first eight points of the set. The Knights never looked back by winning the next two sets, both by a score of 25-17. The Knights played a strong team match overall, but were led by their seniors,
Mary Ann Raftery (Long Beach, N.Y.) and
Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.).
Raftery had a match high 18 kills and also tallied 13 digs, while Halverson led the way with a match-high 35 assists. Freshman
Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) posted 14 digs, just edging Raftery for the team-high
For Manhattanville, sophomore Alyssa Casino (Rye Brook, N.Y.) led the way with a match-high 15 digs. Sophmore Veronica Ferreiras (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had a team-high 7 assists.
Next up for the Knights will be the College of Mount Saint Vincent this Saturday. The match is set for a 1:00 p.m. start and will be held at the gymnasium of NYU-Poly.
