EDGEWATER, N.J. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team yielded just seven games in nine matches on the way to a clean sweep of Yeshiva University on Thursday evening. The Knights go to 1-0 (1-0 Skyline) on the year while the Maccabees drop to 1-3 (1-3 Skyline).
Senior
Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) paired with junior
Jaimee Lubniewski (Middletown, N.Y.) for an 8-0 win at first doubles, while freshmen
Morgan Holbrook (Montgomery, N.Y.) and
Ashlynne O'Brien (Washingtonville, N.Y.) teamed for an 8-1 win at second doubles. Sophomore
Alissa Niad (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and senior
Jill Saydlowski (Milford, Conn.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win in the third position.
Murphy-Goldberg claimed a 6-1, 6-1 decision at the top of the singles lineup. Holbrook, Lubniewski, O'Brien, and Saydlowski didn't lose a game in singles wins at second, third, fourth, and fifth singles, respectively. Junior
Jillian Torre (Bohemia, N.Y.) nailed down a 6-2, 6-0 win at sixth singles to complete the overall sweep.
The Knights return to action on Sunday when they'll host Sarah Lawrence College. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on the MSMC Tennis Courts.
