Knights Use 4-0 Run in the Fourth to Overcome SUNYIT

| By:
NEWBURGH, N.Y. – With just 1:44 remaining in the game, freshman Stephen York (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) netted the game-winner as the Mount Saint Mary College men's lacrosse team pulled out a 14-13 win over SUNYIT. The Mount improves to 4-3 on the year, while the Wildcats move to 0-3 in their inagural season.

After a fairly even first half of play, the score was 8-7 in favor of the Knights at the break. The Wildcats outscored the Knights, 4-2, in the third to jump ahead by one with one period to go.

With his team trailing by two, Mount freshman CJ Cardo (Merrick, N.Y.) picked a good time to score his first goal of the night. Fellow freshman Jake Robison (Franklin Square, N.Y.) dished the ball off to Cardo, who then fired a shot past SUNYIT goalie Andre Shattell (Syracuse, N.Y.) to make it a one goal game.

The score remained 12-11 in favor of SUNYIT for the next six minutes as both teams struggled to find the back of the net. At the 3:09 mark in the fourth, Cardo dodged near the crease and placed a low angle shot in the back of the net to tie the game at 12-12.

Less than a minute later, Cardo passed the ball to sophomore Matt O'Donnell (Wallkill, N.Y.) who then one timed a shot to give the Knights a one goal lead, 13-12.
York added the Knights' final goal of the game at the 1:44 mark, finishing a pass from freshman David Hobbs (Baldwin, N.Y.). The Wildcats pulled to within one with less than a minute on the clock, but a string of turnovers prevented them from setting up a scoring opportunity and the Mount held on for the win.

Junior Andrew Pullen (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and O'Donnell each added five goals for the Mount. Cardo finished with four points (2G, 2A), while junior Nick Findlay (Elmont, N.Y.) also recorded four points (1G, 3A). On the defensive end, freshman Dave Morris (Floral Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Matt Buonocore combined to cause six turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper Connor Haran (Massapequa, N.Y.) played 40 minutes in net and earned the win.

SUNYIT junior Kevin Gardrvits (Glen Clove, N.Y.) tallied a game high nine points (4G, 5A), while classmate Jon Eguren (Vitoria, Spain) added four goals and one assist. Shattell, the Wildcats' goalkeeper, made nine saves in the loss.

The Knights return to action on Saturday, March 24 as they open up their Skyline Conference season against Richard Stockton. The Mount will host the Ospreys in a 3:00 p.m. contest.
