Box Score NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team advanced to 20-3 on the season with a 68-49 win over St. Joseph's College on Thursday evening. With the win the Knights improve to 11-1 in Skyline Conference play, while the Golden Eagles move to 11-10 overall and an even 6-6 in the conference.
Mount junior
Kate Hartnett (Floral Park, N.Y.) knocked down a free throw at the 13:25 mark to put the Knights up by six, 11-5. The Golden Eagles cut the lead to one, 15-14, when sophomore Laura Cohen (Smithtown, N.Y.) drained a three-pointer with 9:23 to go in the half.
The Knights rebounded with an 11-0 run to regain a comfortable lead. In closing minute, two quick baskets by Hartnett and
Rottisha Lewis (Norwalk, Conn.) pushed the Knights ahead by 22 at the break.
Although the Golden Eagles shot 44.0-percent from the field in the second half, they would never get closer than 13. Lewis banked in a layup as the clock wound down to cap the score, 68-49, in favor of the Knights.
Mount senior
Jen Mocanu (Belford, N.J.) led the way for the Knights with 15 points, while classmate
Natalie Garbie (Bayville, N.Y.) chipped in with 12 points. Mount Saint Mary College senior
Amanda Horvers (Kingston, N.Y.)was the only other Knight to reach double-digits with 11 points. Junior
Kate Hartnett (Floral Park, N.Y.) and sophomore
Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) recorded identical nights with eight points and seven boards each.
St. Joseph's junior Amanda Bender (East Northport, N.Y.) led the Golden Eagles with a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
In the final stretch of the regular season, the Mount will host Polytechnic Institute of New York University on Wednesday, February 15. The game will be played at 7:00 p.m.
