Three-Point Shooting Carries Mount to Win

Box Score

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College drained 14 three-pointers in a 73-50 Skyline Conference victory over Yeshiva University on Monday evening.  The Knights improve to 4-3 overall (2-1 Skyline), while the Macs fall to 1-5 overall (1-2 Skyline).

When senior Ryan Straub (Massapequa, N.Y.) connected from long range at the buzzer, Mount Saint Mary headed to the locker room with a 16-point advantage (34-18).  Yet, Yeshiva roared out of the gates in the second half, opening with an 8-0 run that was a part of a bigger 19-4 swing that brought the Macs to within a point (38-37) as the clock ticked under twelve minutes.

In response, Mount junior Steve Phillips (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) hit from downtown to kick off an 8-0 run that was capped by a triple from senior Lenny Ragaglia (Staten Island, N.Y.) with 10:40 remaining.

Yeshiva would get back to within five (48-43) with a little more than nine minutes to play, but the Knights ripped off a 22-6 run to put the game well out of reach.  Juniors Donte Howell (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Joe Stabach (Staten Island, N.Y.) each hit a pair of triples during the stretch and Stabach's three with 1:59 to play made it 70-49, Knights.

Stabach finished with a game-high 18 points, all by way of the three-pointer (6-of-10).  Howell added 12 points and seven assists, while junior Joe Henain (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) just missed a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

Senior Dovie Hoffman (Tarzana, Calif.) led Yeshiva with 14 points.

Mount Saint Mary hit on 14-of-29 (48.3-percent) from three and committed just 11 turnovers.  Yeshiva shot 50.0-percent from the field but was plagued by 25 turnovers.

The Knights return to the Kaplan Center to host the University of Scranton in non-conference action on Thursday.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
