Turnovers Plague Knights in Loss to 22nd-Ranked Montclair State

Box Score

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Montclair State University women's basketball team capitalized on the Knights' turnovers, scoring 29 points off turnovers en route to a 53-37 win over the Mount. The Knights fall to an even 5-5 on the year, while the Red Hawks improve to a perfect 11-0.

Mount sophomore Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) knocked down a three pointer at the 15:35 mark, as the Knights roared out to an 11-2 lead in the opening minutes. Behind nine points from sophomore Melissa Tobie (Elizabeth, N.J.), the Red Hawks responded with a 16-0 run of their own that spanned seven minutes and put Montclair up, 18-11.

A jumper by junior Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) pulled the Knights to within one, 20-19, with under two minutes to play in the first, but the Red Hawks closed out the half with back-to-back buckets.

With 4:38 to play, Montclair freshman Kelly Williams (Titusville, N.J.) converted a free throw to give the Red Hawks their largest lead of the night, 23. The Knights scored the final seven points of the game to cut the deficit to 16.

Perrone led all scorers with 15 points, in addition to grabbing 11 rebounds. Romao added seven points.

Tobie scored a team-high 13 points, while also collecting seven rebounds. Junior Nicosia Henry (Bolingbrook, IL.) tallied 11 points.

The Knights return to action on January 4, as they travel to New Paltz for a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
