Mount Closes First Semester With a Victory

Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College never trailed on Wednesday evening on its way to a 61-44 victory over Vassar College in non-conference action.  The Knights hit the end of the first semester with an overall record of 5-4, while the Brewers drop to 4-5.

Mount Saint Mary pushed an eight-point halftime lead to 16 with a 9-1 run to open the second half.  The Brewers cut into the deficit with a 9-0 run of their own and when junior John Donnelly (Williston, Vt.) drained a three-pointer with 9:21 to play, Vassar trailed by just six (42-36).

Still leading by six, the Knights put the game away with a decisive 11-0 run.  Junior Chris Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) kicked off the run with a three-pointer that was followed by back-to-back triples from junior Joe Stabach (Staten Island, N.Y.).  A layup by Pisciott with 3:53 remaining gave the Knights an insurmountable 55-38 advantage.

Pisciotta led the Knights with 16 points on 7-of-9 from the field.  He connected on both of his attempts from beyond the arc and also collected a team-high five rebounds.  Stabach added 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting, while junior Joe Henain (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) also pitched in with 12 points.

Donnelly led all scorers with 19 points, but was the only Brewer to reach double figures.  Vassar shot just 39.6-percent from the field, while the Knights hit at a clip of 51.0-percent.

Mount Saint Mary gets some much-needed time off before returning to action in January.
