Knights Rout Staten Island to Advance in ECAC Metro Region Tournament

Box Score

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College exploded for nine goals on Thursday night and posted a 9-1 victory over the College of Staten Island in the ECAC Metro Region Tournament quarterfinals.  The Knights improve to 17-3-1 overall and will take on Kean University in the semifinals.

Sophomore Vanessa DiSilvio (Massapequa, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the 8th minute, putting home a feed from freshman Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.).  Staten Island answered with a goal in the 16th minute and the game remained tied until the final ten minutes of the opening half.

In the 37th minute, freshman Melissa Guillemette (Branford, Conn.) put the Knights ahead once again, beating a defender after collecting a long pass from senior Lindsey Oro (Holtsville, N.Y.).  Just two minutes later, Robe added another goal for the Mount, finishing off a nice ball from junior Brigit Burgio (Riverhead, N.Y.).

Robe opened the second half scoring with a pretty shot in the 55th minute.  DiSilvio played a diagonal ball from the right sideline to Robe at the corner of the box.  Robe's shot was perfectly placed at the far lower corner of the net and made it 4-1, Knights.

Sophomore Renee Schultz (Waldwick, N.J.) blew the game wide open with a goal from 30 yards in the 63rd minute and Robe followed up with her third of the night in the 67th minute to make it 6-1.

DiSilvio added her second of the night in the 69th minute, while sophomores Meghan Moran (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Megan Schweitzer (Thiells, N.Y.) added goals down the stretch to make the final score, 9-1.  Moran assisted on Schweitzer's goal, a chipped shot over the keeper's head and the first of her college career.

Third-seeded Mount Saint Mary advances to play second-seeded Kean University in the semifinals on Saturday.  The game will be played at Stockton College in Pomona, New Jersey.
