NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Senior
Mary Ann Raftery (Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) totaled 19 kills without an error as Mount Saint Mary College swept St. Joseph's College in the Skyline Conference semifinals on Sunday morning. The Knights improve to 22-11 overall and will compete in the championship match later today.
The Knights won the opening two sets in just under 40 minutes (25-16 and 25-13). In set three, the Golden Eagles managed to slow down the Mount, but the Knights held on to complete the straight-set win. Senior
Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.) and sophomoe
Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) combined on a block to finish off the final set, 25-20.
Raftery finished with 19 kills on 36 attempts and also added four aces. Freshman
Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) added eight kills while Halverson totaled 27 assists.
Mount Saint Mary will play the winner of #2 Sage and #3 NYU-Poly at 2:30 p.m.
