Box Score
NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College freshman
Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored both goals in a 2-0 win over SUNY College at Old Westbury in Friday's Skyline Conference semifinal. The Knights improve to 16-2-1 overall and will host second-seeded Farmingdale State College in Sunday's championship.
Robe opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Sophomore
Marissa Segreto (West Islip, N.Y.) played a ball forward that deflected off an Old Westbury defender and into the box. Robe collected the ball and beat the goalkeeper one-on-one to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage.
Old Westbury junior JoAnna Kettell (Hauppauge, N.Y.) had a chance to tie in the first half, but her shot sailed high over the bar and the Knights carried the one-goal edge into the half.
In the 61st minute, Mount sophomore
Nicole Gianotti (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) just missed a chance to double the advantage. Old Westbury sophomore goalkeeper Heather Grosso (Garden City South, N.Y.) made the initial save on a shot from sophomore
Jordyn Catapano (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), but the rebound fell right to Gianotti. The sophomore's follow-up attempt was just high, however, and the score remained, 1-0.
Robe put the game on ice in the 85th minute, putting home another feed from Segreto. Segreto fed the ball on a diagonal to Robe, who poked it past the keeper to make it 2-0.
Freshman goalkeeper
Abigail McQuillen (Greenville, N.Y.) needed to make just one save to earn the shutout for the Knights. Grosso made 11 saves for the Panthers.
