Mount Hangs Tough, Falls To Rochester

Box Score

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Mount Saint Mary College hung around for most of the game on Saturday night, but ultimately fell to the University of Rochester, 82-68, in the championship game of the Chuck Resler Tournament.  The Knights close the weekend at 1-1.

Junior Donte Howell (Baldwin, N.Y.) hit a game-opening three-pointer, but Rochester answered with the next nine points and the Knights would be in chase mode for the rest of the evening.  Another triple from Howell with 4:15 to play in the opening half cut the Rochester lead to just five (30-25), but the Yellow Jackets closed the period on an 11-4 run to lead 41-29 at the break.

Rochester extended the lead to as many as 15 to open the second half, but junior Chris Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) drained a three-pointer with 11:41 remaining to cut the deficit back to eight.  When junior Joe Henain (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) put home a bucket at 10:43, the Knights trailed by just six at 58-52.

The Yellow Jackets stretched the lead back to eleven, but the Knights weren't ready to quit just yet.  Junior Joe Stabach (Staten Island, N.Y.) completed a three-point play with 8:18 remaining and Henain made one-of-two at the line to make it a six-point game once again (66-60).

Sophomore Kevin Sheehy (Syosset, N.Y.) answered with a three-pointer, and following a Stabach miss at the other end, sophomore Tyler Sankes (Rochester, N.Y.) made a bucket in the paint to push the lead back to double-digits.  Rochester would keep the Knights at arm's length the rest of the way and closed out a 14-point victory.

Howell led the Knights with 23 points, six rebounds, and seven assists.  Stabach added 14 points, Pisciotta finished with 13, and Henain totaled 11 points with seven rebounds.

Sophomore Tyler Seidman (Bellmore, N.Y.) led Rochester with 23 points on six-of-seven from three.  Junior Nate Vernon (Chapel Hill, N.C.) added 22 points and seven rebounds.

Mount Saint Mary College returns to action on Tuesday with a short road trip to New Paltz.  Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
