Robe Scores Two as Knights Oust NYU

Box Score

BRONX, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College freshman Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) put an exclamation point on an exceptional regular season Tuesday evening, scoring both goals in her team's 2-0, non-conference win over NYU.  The Knights improve to 15-2-1 overall.

With the game scoreless at the half and both teams lacking even a shot on goal, Robe broke through in the 47th minute.  Junior Brigit Burgio (Riverhead, N.Y.) played a long ball forward from the back, allowing Robe to beat the defense.  Then, one-on-one with the goalkeeper, Robe found the back of the netto give the Knights a one-goal lead.

Less than ten minutes later, Robe struck again.  This time, senior Lindsey Oro (Holtsville, N.Y.) played a free kick into the box where it struck a defender and fell to the feet of Robe.  The rookie buried a shot at the far post, her nation-leading 29th goal of the season, to give the Knights a 2-0 advantage.

Junior goalkeeper Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) was called upon to make her only save of the night in the 68th minute.  NYU managed six more shots over the game's final 20 minutes, but was unable to find the target with any of them.

With the regular season complete, Mount Saint Mary will have more than a week off before opening play in the Skyline Conference tournament.  The Knights will host either #4 Old Westbury or #5 Sage in a semifinal game on Wednesday, October 31.
