NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Behind a pair of wins from freshman
Morgan Holbrook (Montgomery, N.Y.), Mount Saint Mary College defeated the Sage Colleges in Skyline action Wednesday night by a final score of 7-2. The Knights improve to 9-0 on the year and to 5-0 inside the conference.
Holbrook paired with freshman
Ashlynne O'Brien (Washingtonville, N.Y.) for an 8-1 win at second doubles, while freshman
Breanna Scott (Highland Falls, N.Y.) and junior
Jillian Torre (Bohemia, N.Y.) paired for an 8-1 win at third doubles. The Knights led 2-1 at the close of the doubles competition.
Down the singles lineup, O'Brien fought to a 6-3, 6-4 win at third singles and Scott claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win at four. Senior
Jill Saydlowski (Milford, Conn.) added a 6-2, 6-1 win at fifth as Torre rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at six. Holbrook provided the most exciting win, pulling out a third set superbreaker. After losing the first set in a tiebreak, the rookie rallied to win the second set, 6-0. She took the match tiebreaker, 10-6.
The Knights finish off Skyline play on Saturday with a match against NYU-Poly. The start time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Newburgh.
