NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College took control early and never looked back in a straight-set, non-conference win over William Paterson University on Tuesday. The Knights (17-8) won 25-13, 25-18, and 25-18.
Freshman
Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) matched senior
Katharine Tischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) with a team-high eight kills, while senior
Mary Ann Raftery (Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) checked in with seven kills. Senior
Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.) added 28 assists, while freshman
Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) tallied a team-high 17 digs.
For William Paterson, sophomores
Taylor Woegens (Bogota, N.J.) and Shauna VanDeRee (Waldwick, N.J.) each finished with seven kills. Senior Liz Dykhouse (Wanaque, N.J.) totaled 14 assists and sophomore Katelyn Malloy (Leonia, N.J.) contributed 14 digs, both team highs.
The Knights return to action this weekend with a pair of Skyline Conference matches and can clinch the regular season title with a pair of wins. In matches to be played at Old Westbury, the Mount takes on Old Westbury at 11:00 a.m. and Farmingdale at 1:00 p.m.
