CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College picked up a pair of non-conference wins on Saturday, defeating SUNY Oswego and Cazenovia College, both in straight sets. The Knights improve to 16-8 on the season.
The Mount jumped out to an early two sets to none lead on Oswego (25-18, 25-17) before battling out a tight third set (27-25) to claim the win. Senior
Mary Ann Raftery (Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) totaled 13 kills and 14 digs, while freshman
Kayla Kurka (Islip, N.Y.) posted eight kills and five blocks. Senior
Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.) tallied 26 assists and a team-high 15 digs.
The Knights dominated the opening set against Cazenovia (25-12) and then held on for a pair of 28-26 sets to close out the match in three. Kurka led the squad with nine kills and three aces, while Raftery posted eight kills. Halverson added 30 assists and led the team once again with 19 digs. Freshman
Jen Gries (Hicksville, N.Y.) pitched in with 14 digs.
Mount Saint Mary hosts William Paterson in non-conference action on Tuesday, October 16. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. inside the Kaplan Center.
