Box Score
NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Completing a 2-0 weekend, the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team defeated Denison University by a final score of 2-0 in non-conference action on Sunday. The Knights improve to 12-2-1 overall, while the Big Red drops to 3-9-1.
Freshman
Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) put the Knights on the board in the 27th minute following a beautiful pass from freshman
Melissa Guillemette (Branford, Conn.). From the left side of the field, Guillemette threaded a diagonal ball through the middle of the field to Robe near the top of the box. The rookie took an initial touch and then fired a shot inside the far post for her 21st tally of the season. The goal would stand up as the game-winner and Robe now leads all of NCAA Division III with nine game-winning goals.
Denison pushed forward over the final 15 minutes of the opening half, but couldn't find the back of the net. Mount junior goalkeeper
Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) came up with a pair of saves on Denison corner kicks to keep the Big Red off the scoreboard. Then, a shot from freshman Andrea Witte (Utica, Ohio) in the 42nd minute went off the outside of the post.
Mount Saint Mary earned an early corner in the second half and made the most of the opportunity. Senior
Lindsey Oro (Holtsville, N.Y.) played a low cross the found its way to the back post. Sophomore
Kim Castro (Vernon, N.J.), who had narrowly missed a goal early in the first half, made no mistake this time, one-timing the ball to the back of the net.
With Denison sending players forward, Robe had a chance to ice the game in the 78th minute on a breakaway. Denison junior goalkeeper Andrea Karl (Powell, Ohio) made a nice challenge on the play, however, forcing Robe's shot just over the bar.
Mancini finished off her second shutout in as many days, making both saves required of her. Sophomore
Marissa Segreto (West Islip, N.Y.) turned in a nice defensive effort, shutting down a number of Big Red chances.
The Knights held an 18-5 advantage in shots and a 10-4 advantage in corners.
Up next for the Mount is a key Skyline Conference contest with the Sage Colleges. Currently second in the standings, the Gators will host the first-place Knights on Thursday, October 18 at 8:00 p.m. The game will be played at Colonie Central High School.
