Box Score
NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College freshman
Shanice Robe (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored three goals for the second straight game, leading her team to a 3-0 victory over Purchase College in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday. The Knights move to 11-2-1 overall (6-0-0 Skyline).
A scoreless first half was highlighted by one stellar chance by the Mount. In the 14th minute, senior
Lindsey Oro (Holtsville, N.Y.) played a corner kick into the box where Robe headed a shot on net. After Purchase freshman Kristy Colangelo (Staten Island, N.Y.) made the initial save, Robe followed up with a shot to the far post, but that attempt was cleared away by a Purchase defender at the line.
Purchase opened the second half with its first legitimate chance of the game. A diagonal ball from the midfield found its way to the top of the box, but Mount junior
Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) moved quickly forward to snag the dangerous pass.
Less than two minutes later, Robe broke through for the game's first goal. Mount sophomore
Kim Castro (Vernon, N.J.) blocked a Purchase clearing attempt and the freshman collected the loose ball outside the box. Now one-on-one with the goalkeeper, Robe slotted a low shot to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage.
Robe picked up her second tally in the 65th minute. Oro played a corner to the middle of the box and Robe one-timed a perfect shot past a surprised goalkeeper. The rookie finished off the hat trick just two minutes later, taking a pass from sophomore
Julianne DiDonato (Fishkill, N.Y.). Robe split a pair of Purchase defenders inside the box before finding the back of the net for the third time.
Mancini needed to make just two saves to earn the shutout. The game was another stellar effort from the back line, including Oro and junior
Tara McDermott (Tewksbury, N.J.) in the middle.
Colangelo played very well in net for Purchase. The rookie finished with eight saves.
Mount Saint Mary returns to action tomorrow. The Knights host Denison University at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
