Knights Down Mount Saint Vincent, 83-72, for Fourth Consecutive Victory

Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Mount Saint Mary College senior Kevin Milella (Floral Park, N.Y.) completed a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds as his team defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday evening by a score of 83-72.  The Knights, winners of four in a row, improved to 9-4 overall (4-2 Skyline), while the Dolphins tumbled to 3-10 (1-5 Skyline).

With the game tied at 55 and 8:51 remaining, Mount Saint Mary put together a decisive 8-0 run that included a pair of buckets from Milella.  A fast break layup from senior Carlos Valdez (Carolina, Puerto Rico) at 6:50 completed the string and forced Mount Saint Vincent to spend a time-out.

The Dolphins would get back to within four just inside of the five-minute mark, but Mount sophomore Joe Stabach (Staten Island, N.Y.) answered with a three-pointer on the ensuing possession to push the lead back to seven.  With Mount Saint Vincent still in striking distance, a put-back layup by Valdez at the two-minute mark made in 72-64 and the Dolphins wouldn't threaten again as the Knights took care of their free throws down the stretch.

Milella hit on 9-of-15 from the field to lead all scorers with 23 points.  Valdez went 6-of-7 from the floor to finish with 17 points in addition to 13 rebounds.  Stabach also scored 17 points, while sophomore Joe Henain (Benesuef, Egypt) joined him in double figures with 10 points.

Junior Sean Caputo (Staten Island, N.Y.) led Mount Saint Vincent with 17 points.  Junior Shaquille Cunningham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 13 points and senior Mark Waite (Chicago, Ill.) had 12.

Mount Saint Mary shot 44.6-percent for the game and held a 55-32 advantage on the glass.  Mount Saint Vincent shot 39.4-percent from the floor and connected on 10-of-23 (43.5-percent) from long range.

The Knights will put their winning streak on the line in a home game against Maritime College on Saturday.  The tip is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Kaplan Center.
