Amanda Horvers (Kingston, N.Y.), the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team remained undefeated in Skyline Conference play after posting a 78-56 win over the Sage Gators. The Knights improve to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Gators move to 5-7 on the season and 1-3 in Skyline play.
With a 6-4 lead just three minutes into the game, the Knights exploded for an 11-0 run capped with 10:47 on the clock as Mocanu banked in a layup. In the closing ten minutes of the half Horvers shot a blistering 3-4 from the three point arc, while teammate
Charneice McCullough (Wyandanch, N.Y.) also added one from downtown. After limiting the Gators to shooting just 23.1-percent from the field, the Mount possessed a 44-19 lead at the half.
The Knights' shooting cooled off in the second half and the Gators were able to capitalize. Sage outscored the Mount by a score of 37-34 in the second half, however after their strong first half the Knights prevailed.
Mocanu led all scorers and Horvers was the only other Knights to record double-digit points. Both junior
Becky Metzger (Point Pleasant, N.J.) and sophomore
Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) collected seven rebounds for the Mount.
Sage freshman Megan Bowman (Saranac, N.Y.) , newcomer Nicole Lanteri (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and junior Carly Vallee (East Greenbush, N.Y.) each added 14 points for the Gators.
The Knights continue Skyline Conference play on Thursday, as they play host to the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The game is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
