ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team was hit with some hard luck during the opening weekend, losing a pair of five-set matches at the SUNY Oneonta Invitational. The Knights dropped five-setters to Emmanuel and SUNYIT ,while also falling to Pacific and host Oneonta during the two-day event.
Freshman
Taylor Woegens (Bogota, N.J.) highlighted the weekend with a standout performance against SUNYIT. Woegens finished with 17 kills on 35 attempts and did not record an error against the Wildcats.
The Knights also received strong play from junior
Mary Ann Raftery (Long Beach, N.Y.). Raftery led the team with 3.7 digs per set and finished second to Woegens with 1.7 kills per set. Junior
Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.) racked up 105 assists over the weekend, an average of 6.6 per set.
Mount Saint Mary led by two sets to one in both of the five-set matches. After losing the opening set to Emmanuel on Friday, the Knights won the second (25-22) and the third (25-22), before dropping the fourth (18-25) and fifth (9-15). Against SUNYIT on Saturday, the Mount pulled out a tight third set (25-23), but lost the fourth set (18-25) and the final set by a score of 10-15.
