PURCHASE, N.Y.-The Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer notched their first win in Skyline Conference play with a 1-0 victory over Purchase College. The Knights improve to 6-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Skyline. The Panthers fall to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Skyline play.
The Mount controlled the offensive end with a 14-2 advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks. Despite this commanding advantage the Knights struggled to find the back of the net in the first half. The game remainded deadlocked at the conclusion of the first stanza.
Mount senior
Erin McKeon (Waterbury, Conn.) broke the tie in the 75th minute on a shot from the 15 yards out in the center of the box that beat Purchase goalkeeper Kristen Racaniello. Sophomore
Allie Kleine (Vernon, N.J.) was credited with the assist. The Knights would hold on for the 1-0 win as they cruised to their fourth shutout of the season.
The Mount totaled 22 shots on goal, including six on goal from McKeon and four each from sophomore
Sara Sheehan (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and freshman
Marissa Segreto (West Islip, N.Y.). Sophomore goalkeeper
Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) made one save to solidify the shutout, while Racaniello, the Purchase goalkeeper, tallied 21 saves.
The Knights return to the road on Wednesday night for a Skyline Conference contest at Maritime College. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
