NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Continuing their high-scoring start to the season, the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team poured in eight goals during an 8-1 non-conference victory over John Jay on Monday afternoon. The Knights improved to 5-1-1 overall.
Freshman
Renee Schultz (Waldwick, N.J.) put the Knights on the board in the 11th minute with one of the nicer scoring plays of the day. On a free kick from junior
Lindsey Oro (Holtsville, N.Y.), Schultz headed a shot to the near post where it snuck past the goalkeeper and into the net. Senior
Erin McKeon (Watertown, Conn.) followed in the 17th minute with another pretty goal, volleying home a cross from sophomore
Allie Kleine (Vernon, N.J.).
McKeon would go on to score a second goal, joining two other Knights who scored multiple goals. Freshman Trish LaSasso (Middlesex, N.J.) tallied a goal in each half, while sophomore
Sara Sheehan (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) netted back-to-back goals in the second stanza. Senior
Colleen Cappadora (Goshen, N.Y.) was the other goal scorer for the Mount, putting home a feed from sophomore
Tara McDermott (Tewksbury, N.J.) in the 36th minute.
The Knights will be tested on Wednesday with a road trip to Vassar College. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, New York.
