NEWBURGH, N.Y.- In the third minute of play, freshman
Kim Castro (Vernon, N.J.) netted her first collegiate goal to give the Knights a 1-0 lead as they rolled to a 7-0 win over Becker College. The Knights improved to 4-1 on the season, while the Hawks dropped to 2-1-1.
A Becker College foul in the offensive third of the field prompted a free kick opportunity just two minutes into the game. Castro drilled the free kick from the left side across the box and past Hawk goalkeeper Kaitlyn Rose to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Senior
Erin McKeon (Waterbury, Conn.) one-touched a pass from sophomore
Sara Sheehan (Beacon, N.Y.) to give the Knights a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Just three minutes into the second half, McKeon scored her second goal of the game off a corner kick by sophomore
Allie Kleine (Vernon, N.J.). In the 57th minute Sheehan scored her first of the game off a corner kick by Kleine. Freshman
Kelly Cirimello (Centereach, N.Y.) also scored, firing home a pass from classmate Trish LaSasso (Middlesex, N.J.) to put the Knights on top 5-0. LaSasso recorded her first collegiate point with an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute. Senior
Gable Herczeg (Bethel, Conn.) rounded out the scoring with an unassisted tally in the closing minutes of the game.
Sophomore
Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and freshman Ashley DePietto (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) split time in goal for the Knights. DePietto made on save. Rose, the Becker goalkeeper, finished with an impressive 15 saves.
Up next for the Knights is an away contest at Western New England College. Mount Saint Mary will travel to WNEC on Wednesday, September 14 at 4:30.
