Mount Edges Ramapo

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Moving to 3-1 during the spring and to 15-3 overall, the Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team picked up a hard-fought victory over Ramapo College on Sunday.  The Knights won, 5-4.

Mount Saint Mary kicked off the match by claiming two of the three doubles points.  Sophomore Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg and junior Annmarie Llewellyn were 8-2 winners at first doubles, while sophomores Emily Gregory and Jennifer Gregory took an 8-3 win at second doubles.

Now needing three points to finish off the team victory, senior Lindsay Searle played an excellent match at second singles (6-3, 6-3) to push the Knights closer to the win.  Then, with only first singles and fifth singles still on court, the Mount snagged both matches to win the overall match, 5-4.  Murphy-Goldberg dropped the opening set, 6-3, but rallied to win the next two, 7-5, 6-0, at first singles.  Jennifer Gregory won the opener, 6-2, and held on in the second, 7-5, to clinch the match for the Knights.

Mount Saint Mary will next compete at the SUNY New Paltz Tournament on April 30.  The NCAA Division III Tournament is scheduled for May 13-15.
