NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seventh-seeded Mount Saint Mary College was bounced from the ECAC Division III Metro/Upstate Region Tournament on Wednesday night in straight sets (14-25, 9-25, 13-25) by second-seeded NYU. The Knights will finish the season at 20-11 overall.
The Violets jumped out to an 8-1 advantage in set number one and never looked back, cruising to a 25-14 victory in the opener. The story was the same in set number two, as NYU scored the first 10 points on their way to a 25-9 win. In set number three, the Knights led 6-4 on a kill from senior
Jacqueline Nadeau (Uniondale, N.Y.). After falling behind, Mount Saint Mary recorded back-to-back points to even the set at 10 apiece. Unfortunately, NYU runs of five points, then four points, would all but seal the deal. The Violets claimed the match with a 25-13 set three victory.
Junior
Mary Ann Raftery (Long Beach, N.Y.) led the Mount with four kills and Nadeau was second with three. Senior
Heather Schaeffer (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) posted a team-high 13 digs.
NYU advances to play FDU-Florham or St. John Fisher at Elmira College on Saturday.
