Knights Bow Out to Richard Stockton in ECAC Semifinals

Riverdale, N.Y. – Three second half goals by Richard Stockton sent the Knights to a 3-0 defeat in the ECAC Semifinals. The Knights finish their season with an overall record of 18-4-1, while the Ospreys advance to the ECAC Championship game with an overall record of 15-6-4.

In the 25th minute of play, the Ospreys almost broke the 0-0 deadlock when Leah Braidi headed a cross from teammate Jess McQuillen just wide of the net. With just two seconds remaining, Mount freshman Kelly Cirimello (Centerreach,N.Y.) directed a shot to the near post, but Stockton goalkeeper Sarah Hinkle was up to the test to keep things tied, 0-0, going into halftime.

Just six minutes into the second half, Mount freshman Vanessa DiSilvio (Massapequa, N.Y.) ripped a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and Stockton was able to clear the ball. In the 55th minute the Ospreys struck with their first and what would prove to be game-winning goal. Kiera Hines headed the ball from the right post back towards the center of the box and McQuillen was able to knock it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. In the 77th minute, Mount goalkeeper Jacquelyn Mancini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) turned away a shot by Stockton midfielder Briana Fischer. The rebound trickled towards the endline and Brianna DeStefano collected the rebound and redirected the ball into the goal to increase the Ospreys' lead, 2-0.

The Ospreys' third goal of the game came with just eight seconds remaining in play. Stockton midfielder, Dailey Todd played the ball ahead to teammate Jessica Balnis. Balnis beat Mancini, as she came out to challenge the play, and knocked the ball into the goal.

Mancini tallied three saves, while Hinkle, the Stockton goalkeeper, also totaled three saves.
