PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – Needing a pair of wins to clinch the regular season Skyline Conference championship on Saturday, the Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team defeated Purchase College in straight sets (25-7, 25-8, 25-15) and St. Joseph's College in four sets (12-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-15). The Knights have now won 13 consecutive matches and stand at 17-9 overall (8-0 Skyline).
The Mount opened the day with a convincing win over Purchase. Freshman
Taylor Woegens (Bogota, N.J.) and senior
Courtney Kenney (Hicksville, N.Y.) each racked up a team-high six kills, while junior
Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.) piled up 26 assists. Senior
Teresa Sorrentino (Bellerose, N.Y.) added five kills and a team-high nine digs.
Against St. Joseph's, the Knights dropped the opening set but rallied to win the next three. Woegens led the way once again with 12 kills, while Kenney and junior
Mary Ann Raftery (Long Beach, N.Y.) each finished with 11 kills. Halverson passed out 38 assists and senior
Heather Schaeffer (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) tied for a match-high with 25 digs.
The Knights will host Rutgers-Newark in non-conference action on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Kaplan Center. As the regular season conference champions for the second year in a row, Mount Saint Mary will host the semifinals and finals of the Skyline Tournament on Saturday, November 5.
