NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team claimed the regular season Skyline Conference championship following a pair of conference wins, besting Purchase on Friday by a score of 8-1 and sneaking by Farmingdale on Saturday by a score of 5-4. The Knights are now 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the Skyline.
In Saturday's win over Farmingdale State College, the Knights captured two doubles matches and three singles matches to seal a 6-0 record in Skyline play. Juniors
Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and
Jen Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) paired for an 8-4 win at second doubles, while sophomore
Jaimee Lubniewski (Middletown, N.Y.) teamed with freshman
Alissa Niad (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) for an 8-3 win at third doubles.
In singles play,
Jen Gregory sealed an 6-2, 6-2 win at third singles, while sister
Emily Gregory captured an 6-0, 6-2 win at fourth singles. Niad won (6-3, 6-1) at sixth singles to seal the team victory for the Knights.
On Friday afternoon at Purchase, the Knights swept the doubles matches, with 8-1 wins at first and second doubles. Lubniewski and Niad teamed for an 8-4 win at third doubles.
The Knights claimed five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets, for an 8-1 win.
To close out the regular season, the Knights will host Bard College to complete a previously started match. The match is scheduled to resume at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24.
