FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team won their seventh consecutive match on Tuesday evening with an 8-1 defeat of Hunter College. The Knights moved to 7-1 overall.
Mount Saint Mary jumped out to an early lead with easy wins at second and third doubles. The team of juniors
Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and
Jen Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) cruised at second doubles, while sophomore
Kristina Swyryt (Vernon, N.J.) and freshman
Alissa Niad (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) teamed for an 8-0 win at third doubles. At the top spot, senior
Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) and sophomore
Jaimee Lubniewski (Middletown, N.Y.) played an excellent match to earn an 8-4 victory.
In singles action,
Jen Gregory was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at second singles, while
Emily Gregory took a 6-1, 6-2 decision at third singles. Sophomore
Jillian Torre (Bohemia, N.Y.), Llewellyn, and Niad each posted 6-0, 6-0 wins at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles, respectively. Lubniewski split sets at first singles and eventually fell in a third set super tiebreaker, 10-8.
The Knights head to the Polytechnic Institute of NYU on Saturday, October 15 for their next scheduled match. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m.
