NEWBURGH, N.Y.- The Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team captured its eighth consecutive victory with a 5-0 win over Skyline Conference opponent, the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The Knights are now 13-2-1 overall and 6-0-0 in conference play. The loss moves the Dolphins to 3-8-0 on the season and 1-4-0 in the Skyline.
Freshman
Meghan Moran (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) put the Knights on the board first, scoring off a diagonal pass from sophomore
Sara Sheehan (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.). Moran slotted the ball past the outstretched arms of Dolphin goalkeeper Kara McNish to give the Mount a 1-0 lead that extended into the opening minutes of the second half.
The Mount pulled in front, 2-0, in the 58th minute when senior
Gable Herczeg (Bethel, Conn.) drilled a ball from outside the box that skipped off McNish's fingertips into the back of the net. In the 64th minute of play sophomore
Allie Kleine (Vernon, N.J.) connected with freshman
Kim Castro (Vernon, N.J.) off a corner kick. Kleine placed a corner kick into the box and Castro headed the ball to the far post to put the Knights up 3-0. Just two minutes later, the Knights scored their fourth goal of the night. Freshman
Julianne DiDonato (Fishkill, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal off a shot that was just out of McNish's reach and under the crossbar to increase the lead to 4-0. Herczeg was credited with the assist on DiDonato's goal. With less than a minute remaining in the game, freshman Trish LaSasso (Middlesex, N.J.) shot the ball and it ricocheted off the post. LaSasso collected the rebound on the goal line and put a shot in the back of the net to account for the fifth and final goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Ashley DePietto (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) did not face any shots this evening, while McNish finished with 20 saves. The Mount turned in another solid effort, recording their tenth shutout of the season.
Up next, the Knights host St. Joseph's College in a Skyline Conference battle. The game is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15.
