Tice Leads Mount Past Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball season earned a season sweep of Bard College with a 62-28 Skyline Conference victory on Thursday night in Annandale-on-Hudson. The Knights move to 16-2 overall and remain perfect in the Skyline with a 12-0 record, while the Raptors drop to 2-14 on the season and 1-10 in the conference.

There were a total of seven lead changes in the first eight minutes of play as the Raptors and Knights battled for the early momentum. With 12:41 remaining in the first half and the Mount trailing by one (13-12), junior Jen Mocanu (Belford, N.J.) drilled a jumper to give the Knights a lead that they would maintain for the rest of the game. Mocanu's jumper spurred a 30-0 run and the Knights carried a 38-13 lead into the locker room.

A strong defensive effort by the Mount kept the Raptors off the scoreboard for the first four minutes of the second half, as they extended their lead to 42-13. With 15:27 remaining in the game, Bard freshman Victoria Fleischer (Brooklyn, N.Y.) knocked down a three-pointer to finally end the scoring drought for the Raptors. Bard went on to shoot just 22.2% from the field in the second half and the Mount cruised to a thirty-four point win.

Several players contributed offensively for the Knights, led by senior Jess Tice (Altamont, N.Y.), who tallied a game-high 18 points in addition to tallying five rebounds, four blocks, and four steals. Junior Amanda Horvers (Kingston, N.Y.) also grabbed five rebounds to compliment her nine points, while Mocanu finished with seven points. The sophomore duo of Charneice McCullough (Wyandanch, N.Y.) and Becky Metzger (Point Pleasant, N.J.) combined for twelve points, and Metzger was impressive on the glass, contributing a game-high 10 rebounds.

Up next, the Knights will face the Panthers of Old Westbury in a Skyline match-up. The game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 29 at Old Westbury.
