NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The defending Skyline Conference champions opened their 2010 season with a 9-0 victory over Yeshiva University on Thursday evening. Mount Saint Mary College moved to 1-0 overall (1-0 Skyline).
The Knights kicked off the match with a sweep of the three doubles matches. Sophomore
Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) and junior
Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) were 8-1 winners at first doubles, while senior
Lindsay Searle (Farmington, Conn.) and sophomore
Linnea Mowat (Cornwall, N.Y.) took an 8-3 decision at second doubles. Sophomores
Jen Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and
Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) earned an 8-1 win at third doubles.
Murphy-Goldberg and Searle pitched 6-0, 6-0 shutouts at first and second singles, respectively. Lubniewski picked up her first collegiate singles win with a 6-2, 6-3 decision at third singles. Llewellyn came through in a tight first set to prevail, 7-5, 6-0, while the Gregory twins rolled at fifth and sixth singles. Jen won 6-1, 6-1 at fifth, and Emily won 6-1, 6-0 at sixth.
The Knights return to action on Sunday with a trip to Marywood University. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
