NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Breaking through for the first win on their new home courts, the Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team defeated Sage in Skyline Conference action Tuesday by a score of 9-0. The Knights improved to 5-2 overall and to a perfect 4-0 in the Skyline Conference, while the Gators dropped to 2-3 overall, 1-2 Skyline.
Sophomore
Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) and junior
Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) were tested at first doubles, but eventually prevailed by a score of 8-4. The second doubles team of senior
Lindsay Searle (Farmington, Conn.) and freshman
Jaimee Lubniewski (Middletown, N.Y.) shut out their opponents, 8-0, as did the third doubles team of sophomores
Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and
Jen Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.).
Llewellyn played the tightest of the six singles matches, eventually proving victorious 6-4, 6-3 at fourth singles. Murphy-Goldberg took some time to get on track, but came through with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Searle was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at second singles, while Lubniewski pitched another shut out at third singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Emily Gregory yielded just one game at fifth singles (6-0, 6-1), while sister Jen picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the sixth position.
The Knights will head to the ITA Northeast Regional Tournament at William Smith College this weekend. They return to dual match action on September 28 at Ramapo College.
