FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Skyline Conference play with a 9-0 victory over Farmingdale State College on Sunday afternoon. The Knights improved to 4-2 overall and to 3-0 in the conference.
The Knights ran through the doubles competition, losing just two games in the three matches. Sophomore
Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) and junior
Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) raced to an 8-0 victory at first doubles, while sophomores
Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and
Jen Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) matched their score at third doubles. Freshman
Jaimee Lubniewski (Middletown, N.Y.) paired with fellow freshman
Jillian Torre (Bohemia, N.Y.) for an 8-2 win at second doubles. For Torre, it was her first collegiate victory.
Mount Saint Mary completed the sweep with six singles victories, all in straight sets. Murphy-Goldberg yielded just one game at first singles, while Lubniewski pitched a shutout at second singles. Llewllyn was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at third singles.
Emily Gregory batted to a 7-5 first-set win and closed out the match, 6-1.
Jen Gregory took her match, 6-1, 6-2 at fifth singles, and sophomore
Linnea Mowat (Cornwall, N.Y.) pitched in with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the sixth position.
Continuing their schedule against Skyline opponents, the Mount will host Sage on Tuesday, September 21. The match is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start in Newburgh.
