NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Making their debut on the new Mount Saint Mary College tennis courts, the women's tennis team dropped a tight non-conference match to Hunter College by a score of 5-4. The Knights fell to 3-2 overall, while the Hawks remained unbeaten at 4-0.
Hunter took two of the three doubles points and claimed an early lead in the match. Sophomore
Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and
Jen Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) came through with an 8-5 victory at third doubles to get the Knights on the board.
Sophomore
Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) earned an impressive victory at number one singles, knocking off junior Eprakasi Yushkova (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
Emily Gregory nabbed a 6-3, 6-1 decision at fifth singles, and
Jen Gregory was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at sixth singles.
With the match tied at four points apiece, junior
Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) toughed out a close match before falling to Hunter junior Arielle Kamin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
The Knights return to Skyline Conference play on Sunday as they travel to Farmingdale State College. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on September 19.
