Knights Down St. Joseph’s

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College women's tennis team remained atop the Skyline Conference standings with a 7-2 defeat of St. Joseph's College on Saturday. The Knights improved to 3-1 overall and to 2-0 inside the Skyline.

The Knights started off well, taking two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg (Newburgh, N.Y.) and junior Annmarie Llewellyn (Brookhaven, N.Y.) rolled to an 8-2 win at first doubles, while sophomores Jen Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) and Emily Gregory (Albertson, N.Y.) ran away with an 8-3 victory at third doubles.

Mount Saint Mary closed out the match with five of the six singles points. Murphy-Goldberg and senior Lindsay Searle (Farmington, Conn.) went unchallenged at first and second singles, respectively. The Gregory sisters were also relatively easy winners at fifth and sixth singles. Llewellyn played the tightest of the six singles matches, eventually prevailing in a third set supertiebreaker. Llewellyn lost the first set, 6-1, but rallied to win the second in a tiebreaker (7-4). She took the superbreaker by a score of 10-5.

The Knights return home to play their first official match on the Mount's new tennis courts. They'll host Hunter College on Tuesday, September 14 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
