FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Competing in their first ever Skyline Conference championship game, the Mount Saint Mary College women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Farmingdale State College. The Rams improve to 17-4 overall and advance to the NCAA Tournament, while the Knights are now 12-10.
The Rams held a 17-3 shot advantage through the first half of play and a 30-4 shot advantage for the game. Senior goalkeeper
Megan Cotta (Brick, N.J.) was stellar in net and tallied seven saves on the day. Juniors
Gable Herczeg (Bethel, Conn.) and
Kelly Candelet (Mystic, Conn.) each recorded one shot on goal for the Knights.
With just 3:22 remaining in the game Farmingdale State College junior Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches, N.Y.) netted the game-winning goal. Cerverizzo, the Skyline Tournament MVP, converted a pass from sophomore Yvonne Santos (Hicksville, N.Y.) to seal the victory for the Rams.
The Knights now await a possible selection to the ECAC Metro Region Tournament.
