FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College women's volleyball team maintained their hold on first place in the Skyline Conference with a pair of five-set victories on Saturday. The Knights (13-7, 7-0 Skyline) edged Farmingdale State College (19-25, 24-26, 25-16, 25-17, 15-8) and St. Joseph's College (25-15, 16-25, 25-16, 22-25, 15-13) to remain unbeaten in conference action.
Mount Saint Mary dropped the first two sets to Farmingdale before rallying to take the last three. The Knights were led by junior
Courtney Kenney (Hicksville, N.Y.) who racked up a season-high 18 kills to go along with 12 digs. Freshman
Kaylene Pennings (Minisink, N.Y.) tallied 16 kills on 27 attempts without an error for a hitting percentage of .593. Sophomore
Lauren Halverson (Patchogue, N.Y.) continued her strong play with 43 assists and 16 digs. Junior
Heather Schaeffer (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) had a team-high 18 digs.
The Knights traded sets with St. Joseph's before finding themselves in a tight fifth set. The Mount would eventually prevail, 15-13. Pennings came up big once again, this time recording a team-high 16 kills and a school-record 10 blocks. Junior
Teresa Sorrentino (Bellerose, N.Y.) also reached double digit kills with 10, while Halverson dished out 37 more assists. Kenney had 6 kills, 4 aces, and a team-high 15 digs.
The Mount continues Skyline Conference play on Tuesday with a trip to Yeshiva University. The match is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start in New York City.
